MONROE community library

Monroe City Council Extends Community Library Services Agreement

Monroe Library News, Views and Use

The Monroe City Mayor, Council, and Administration are working with community members to improve the Monroe South Benton County Community Library and the historic Train Depot and Library landmark. Established years ago by dedicated locals, the Monroe Community Library is maintained by the city, while the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library manages staff and book inventory. However, the Library Services Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) governing these operations has not been updated in some time, leading to increased facility wear and rising costs, impacting Monroe’s budget for other critical needs. An Emergency Special Council Session on June 26, 2024, has been called to approve a 90-day IGA extension to prevent the library’s closure on July 1, 2024. Community support and involvement are essential to ensure necessary changes and continued library operations. Working together, we can ensure a bright future for our library and community.

Join the Conversation. Shape the Future.

Your voice matters. Attend the Emergency Special Council Session on June 26, 2024, and stand with us to protect and improve the Monroe Community Library. Let’s work together to preserve this vital resource and ensure it continues to serve generations to come.
